After 32 years of service at the Japan Patent Office and 8 years at a patent firm, I established For the Clients IP on April 1, 2026. The successful opening of the firm has been made possible entirely through the support and cooperation of many people, for which I would like to express my sincere gratitude. Although my abilities may be modest, I intend to contribute to my clients’ intellectual property activities based on the experience I have gained over the years.

Career

In 1986 Mr. Keiji Shinkawa joined the Japan Patent Office (JPO). Mr. Shinkawa practiced in the JPO as Chief Senior Examiner, Chief Trial Examiner, and Senior Director of Trial and Appeal Department.

Mr. Shinkawa left the JPO in 2018, and joined a Tokyo based patent firm in July in 2018 after registering as a patent attorney in May of that year. Mr. Shinkawa was head of the IP Patent Litigation & Research Department of the patent firm. Mr. Shinkawa retired from the patent firm in 2026 and set up his own firm, For the Clients IP.
